Alan Mason

Dr. Alan Mason,  has been Temple Israel's Director of Music since 1991.

Alan is one of the nation's leading accompanists of Jewish music. Each January he presents the South Florida Cantorial Concert , which is one of the nation's most acclaimed concerts of Jewish music.

Alan frequently performs at cantorial concerts across the country. In 2007, 2009, and 2011, he was selected to perform as pianist for Shabbat services at the Union for Reform Judaism's national biennial conference.

Each summer Alan accompanies at the North American Jewish Choral Festival, and serves on the faculty of Mifgash Musicale. In November 2010, Alan performed in Rome (click here to view)  at a concert with a group of American cantors as part of a Conference on Catholic-Jewish Relations. Alan has also performed at England's famed Limmud Conference.

Alan serves as Vice President for Education of the Guild of Temple Musicians, and in both 2010 and 2011 was the co-chair of the annual convention of the American Conference of Cantors/Guild of Temple Musicians.

Alan frequently accompanies Cantor Alberto Mizrahi, and in December 2007 they performed with the New York Zamir Chorale at the White House Hanukah Party for President and Mrs. Bush and guests. In 2011 they performed in a concert in Curacao's historic synagogue.
Alan has also performed with the New World Symphony, Florida Philharmonic, and Florida Philharmonic Chorus.

Alan is Associate Professor of Music at Barry University in Miami Shores, Florida. He received the Bachelor of Music and Master of Music degrees from the  Manhattan School of Music, and the Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the University of Miami Frost School of Music.
