PACT Addresses Affordable Housing

Affordable Housing Committee to meet

Tuesday, December 6 at 7PM

260 NE 17 Terrace (corner of Biscayne)
Ground Floor - Parking in Rear

People Acting for Community Together (PACT) is setting up an affordable housing committee in response to concerns of many of its affiliate congregations in low-income areas.

There is a growing concern about gentrification and displacement from our own neighborhood Parish, St. Francis Xavier and also other neighborhood churches. This also fits into the concerns of our other interfaith organization, the South Florida Interfaith Committee for Worker Justice that has involved some of our Temple members in their efforts to bring together a Community Benefit Agreement coalition.

This CBA effort, besides seeking affordable housing, would work on the income side of the equation through living wage jobs and job training opportunities for low-income residents in publicly supported or subsidized development projects. Who knows, these two efforts could be complementary with our joint efforts with the Coral Gables Congregational Church, which like ourselves, is a member of the Interfaith Committee as well as PACT.
